Nengomasha staying at Chiefs

tinashe_nengomashaJohannesburg South African football giants, Kaizer Chiefs, on Thursday insisted that Zimbabwean midfield international Tinashe Nengomasha was not leaving the club, dispelling rumours alleging uncertainty on the players future. (Pictured: Tinashe Nengomasha)

Tinashe is going nowhere, he is our player and more so for another three years, Chiefs football manager, Bobby Motaung said in a statement to The Zimbabwean on Sunday. We were extremely appalled by the media reports regarding the purported uncertainty on the future of Nengomasha. It is only fair that before such speculations are made we at least be given an opportunity to clear the air and in my view the media took a short cut on this one.

Nonetheless, Tinashe will be with Kaizer Chiefs for another three seasons. He has long extended his contract which was due to end in 2010 by another two years.

Motaungs remarks came after media speculation linking Amakhosis tenacious midfielder to certain clubs in the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The tough-tackling Nengomasha, who joined the Johannesburg-based club in 2002 from Zimbabwes Motor Action, has been one of the most consistent players in the South African league.

The performance of the player, who is vice captain at Chiefs, has caught the eye of several clubs in the PSL, particularly big-spenders Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

Meanwhile in one of the most shocking moves in the current PSL transfer window, Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday terminated the services of star Zimbabwe leftback Onismor Bhasera.

Bhasera will leave Kaizer Chiefs along with six other players consider excess manpower by the club.

After consultation with the technical team, management has approved a list of players who will be put on transfer for next season. Our decision to release some players is an integral part of an overhaul process we are currently undergoing, said Motaung, adding that the club had considered the interests of the individual players.

It is not a decision that comes easy, because we believe that these players were with Kaizer Chiefs because they had a great potential to deliver but in the interest of fairness to both parties, we had to release them.

Some of these players have received offers abroad and it is the clubs policy that when such opportunities arise, we allow a player a once in lifetime opportunity to grow in his career, he explained.

Former Maritzburg United defender Bhasera has been one of the most consistent players in the gold-and-black colours of Chiefs for the past two seasons and is rated one of the teams best-ever leftbacks.

Reports suggest that Chiefs felt the 23-year-old had outgrown the standards of the local Premiership and that he was therefore lined up for a move overseas.

The six other players that Motaung revealed are no longer part of Chiefs plans are Michael Nkambule, Gordon Gilbert, Sihle Mbambo, Bongani Sondhlane, Gregory Mabhena and Sandile Zuke.
