MDC views this as an attempt by Zanu PF to intimidate MDC supporters from attending the celebratory rally marking its 10th year in existence. The Midlands North province, especially the Gokwe area, was ravaged by unprecedented State-sponsored violence after the historic elections of 29 March 2008 and some MDC members were brutally murdered while thousands were displaced.
The provincial rallies are also report back occasions where the MDC leadership briefs the nation on the progress being made since the formation of the inclusive government in February.
The Acting President, Hon Thokozani Khupe, is expected to give the keynote address as well as feedback on critical issues such as the inclusive government, the Constitution-making process and the outstanding issues which continue to affect the work of the inclusive government.
The next provincial rally will be held in Mashonaland East on 5 July.
