John Nkomo, Zanu (PF) chair and chair of the panel, was quoted by the state-run Herald newspaper as saying the country could no longer tolerate divisions and that the police were under strict orders to arrest anyone from any political party engaging in violence.??
This move followed a government declaration dedicating Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this week to national healing and reconciliation.
In the declaration, Mugabe guaranteed the safety of all Zimbabweans in the diaspora who returned to the country and asked non-governmental organisations not to promote violence.
Abel Chikomo, executive director of the Zimbabwe Human Rights forum, voiced scepticism, saying Zanu (PF) members should be the ones renouncing violence. VOA
