Mugabe to retire? Forget it, says Zanu

The issue of selecting Mugabes successor has threatened to split the party amid behind-the-scenes jostling by party heavyweights for the top post. Mnangagwa has long been rumoured to be harbouring presidential hopes.
Eighty-five year old Mugabe has said he would not step down until he was convinced that his departure would not lead to the collapse of Zanu (PF).
In May, the Zanu (PF) politburo set up a committee to look into the emotive issue of choosing new leaders, but this recent statement seems to have closed the succession debate.
