OFF THE FIELD

dynamosFormer Shooting Stars captain Guthrie Zhokinyi, will certainly miss the joyous training sessions with hilarious characters such as Esau Amisi at the University of Zimbabwe as he joins the Harare giants, Dynamos, for the second half of the season. But Zhokinyi revealed to The Zimbabwean on Sundays Grace Chirumanzu that he is hoping for better days with the Glamour B

Grace Chirumanzu (GC): It is a great opportunity joining Dynamos but it is also such a huge challenge; tell us how do you feel about your move to DeMbare?
Guthrie Zhokinyi (GZ): I feel great, it is always good to move to a big club like DeMbare, it will boost my confidence and I will improve my game. I have signed a two-year contract and I am confident playing well with them will help me market myself for teams abroad.
GC: Dynamos multitude of supporters are known to be very demanding and rather impatient and have on many occasions booed their own players when they do not deliver on the field, are you ready to face the DeMbare crowd?
GZ: I believe I am ready, I have played against big teams before. I am only looking at playing to the best of my ability and hopefully to never disappoint the supporters.
GC: How about you career ambitions, was joining Dynamos the ultimate goal?
GZ: It has always been my dream to play for the national team, then a foreign club. Playing for the Warriors at CHAN was a good experience for me.
GC: Your old club Shooting Stars are quite a young club compared to DeMbare, tell us what were your experiences there? What were the challenges you faced?
GZ: No particularly at Shooting Stars, I did not have a problem with anyone there but there was just a time I had a problem of getting a transfer letter from my former team, Douglas Warriors. I spent six months of 2006 not playing because of some misunderstanding between Shooting Stars and Douglas Warriors, but all was solved and I havent faced any problems ever since.
GC: And the wrangle over the name Caps United, how did that affect players?
GZ: To be honest we were never affected in any way, the players understood they had to mind their business while the bosses took care of the issues such as the name of the club. The owner of the club and other officials were the people one who managed all that issue and our only business was to play football. There was not any time we got affected with such issues be it on the field or outside the pitch.
GC: Which match do you remember with disappointment in your career?
GZ: Last years ABC Sup8r tournament match that we played against Chapungu. We were down 2-1 and I scored an equalizer seconds from full time but it was disallowed. I was so disappointed.
