Oxfam hails national peace days

peaceHARARE The people of Zimbabwe should uphold national peace days, the Oxfam Director in Zimbabwe, Peter Mutoredzanwa, has said. In a recent statement, Mutoredzanwa said that Zimbabweans should shun violence wherever it occurs and celebrate peace and unity.

The prevailing peace offers a stable working environment that will enable development agencies to reach out to all parts of the country with their recovery programmes, he said. As the agricultural season approaches, Oxfam, with the support from FAO and GRM international, has mobilized agricultural inputs. These include seed, fertilizers and plans to distribute to over 50 000 households in six districts of Zimbabwe.

The inputs should be availed to the needy communities before the beginning of the rainy season. Mutoredzanwa also hailed the steps that the government had taken towards national healing and reconciliation by setting up a ministry.

The government should also ensure that in formulating its framework for work of the organ, it balances providing justice for the victims with reconciliation. The organ should invest in learning and exploring various options and ways of addressing transitional justice issues, in particular issues of national healing.
