Teachers are requesting that they be granted freedom of movement and the right to protest against pathetic working conditions.
They say they have new evidence of youth militia at various schools and blamed Zanu (PF) for militarising the Ministry of Education through what they said were the appointments of state security agents at the Head Office and as school heads.
They noted the “non-fulfilment of the agreements through systematic reversals and annulments of the same agreements by the Public Service Commission in what we deem to be a well calculated and political move to frustrate the unions.”
Takavafira Zhou, PTUZ’s president said: “We resolve to boycott classes and stay away from schools on Fridays July 10 and 17 in a campaign code-named Operation Friday/Chisi/Inzilo. Further class boycotts will start on July 23, if the government does not respond to our action by July 17.”
