Radios for farmers

meteorological_services_departmentBULAWAYO - The Meteorological Services Department has applied for a licence to operate a number of community radio stations in various provinces targeting farmers. MET director, Dr Amos Makarau, said the stations would provide farmers with information about the weather for use in planning their operations.<

The department had submitted proposals to the Ministry of Media Publicity and Information and the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe for consideration and we are waiting for a response.
He said the radio stations would be used only for development purposes and not politics, adding that investors have agreed to provide solar-powered radios.
Makarau said a number of people from his department would soon be sent to Zambia where similar stations have been successfully implemented.
We want to ensure that meteorological information reaches the public said Makarau.
The programme is an initiative of the World Meteorological organisation.
