BUHERA The Red Cross last week gave 30 live goats and 60 live chickens to vulnerable communities in Buhera district. There are some Zanu (PF) members who are working day and night in trying to interfere with the operations of the NGOs in this area. But, Zanu (PF) is not giving us food. If these NGOs stop giving us food aid we will all die of hunger, said one villaAnother villager, Amos Chari, said, Many of the villagers here have survived on hand outs from the NGOs. Zanu (PF) youths are saying that the NGOs are from MDC and want to use food to campaign for Tsvangirai.
The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society is assisting 198 000 households under its national food security and livelihoods programme. Other NGOs operating in Buhera include Medicines Sans Frontiers, Christian Care and World Food Programme.
