Zanu abandons election looters

youth_militiaBIKITA - Hordes of Zanu (PF) youth militia ordered to re-pay stolen goods have been stranded by party officials. After more than 20 Zanu (PF) supporters approached provincial chairperson Lovemore Matuke for financial assistance, he informed them that he had nothing to do with their problems. The militia were told to find other means of re-paying their debts as “the party did not use anything from the MDC”. When contacted for comment, Matuke said Zanu (PF) did not promote violence or lawlessness. He added that those who were overzealous during the elections, should now face the consequences.

“We can not pay for individuals who were looting in the name of the party. If anyone committed a crime, then the law will catch up with him. I lost the elections but I never sent anyone to steal from my rivals,” he said.

The chairperson was reported to have met with MDC-T’s provincial spokesperson and Member of Parliament for Masvingo, Urban Tongai Matutu, to ask him to stop representing MDC supporters in Bikita.

Matutu confirmed that Matuke had approached him last week.

“We are still working on our papers to make sure that those who committed crimes are arrested and pay for the damage,” said Matutu.
