Calendar girls raise cash

calendar_girlsInspired by a local Womens Institute group in the UK whose members famously stripped off for a charity calendar, eight Bedfordshire women have got naked for Zimbabwe. (Pictured: Enjoying the photoshoot for their calendar, aimed at raising funds for two Zimbabwean charities.)

The women, Bernadette Hall, Jennifer Jones, Natasha Lues, Julie Parrott, Cindy Amess, Catherine Bredin, Colleen Demblon and Cathy Alexandre, have got together to raise funds for a Zimbabwean breast cancer charity and The Borradaile Trust in Marondera, a charity that cares for 175 elderly people. There are many crisis donations which are funnelled into Zimbabwe, said the group in a statement, but normal, everyday charities dont benefit from the crisis help and are, therefore, often forgotten. “With Jen recovering from breast cancer, we thought of the women back in Zimbabwe who need as much help as possible, but dont have the funds and or support, and who are suffering from this disease. We also felt that the elderly who have no family or pension to support them were also deserving of charity, said the group. We contacted our close friends and asked if they would be willing to join us in getting their kit off to do this Zimbabwean themed calendar for charity. They readily did so, and in true Zimbabwean spirit, all our husbands or partners were in total support. The group is looking for donations and for customers for its calendar and can be contacted at womenforzimbabwe@yahoo.co.uk.
