Councillors re-join Mutambara MDC

ABOUT twelve Nkayi South councillors who quit the Mutambara MDC to join hands with expelled legislator, Abednico Bhebhe have re-joined the beleaguered party after a move by Parliament to eject the former legislator from Parliament.

Twelve councillors quit the Mutambara MDC following a move by that party’s leadership to suspend Bhebhe and others over charges of indiscipline and disrespect of the leadership. The Nkayi stood solidly behind Bhebhe until he was finally expelled from both the party and Parliament. However, last week, the councillors turned against Bhebhe and re-joined the Mutambara MDC party.

Nkayi Rural District Council chairman, Kufakwezwe Ncube who led the other councillors in quitting the Mutambara MDC party confirmed that they have since re-joined the party.

“We were against the way the leadership had handled the situation (divisions between the leadership and its members). We have since re-joined the party,”Ncube said, however, refusing to reveal the reasons behind re-joining the party they had quit.

MDC Mutambara spokesperson, Edwin Mushoriwa also confirmed that the twelve reengage councillors are back in the party after quitting in solidarity with expelled legislator, Bhebhe. “They are our member and are no longer aligned to Bhebhe and colleagues. Councillor Ncube and others are now part of us,” Mushoriwa noted. A by-election is due in Nkayi South following the expulsion of Bhebhe from Parliament by speaker, Lovemore Moyo after he notified President Mugabe and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) about the vacant seats.
