FCTZ feeding programme

MAKONDE - As hunger bites harder in one of the most remote constituencies in the country, 3,000 children suffering from malnutrition under the age of five are set to benefit from a six-month feeding programme initiated by Farm Community Trust of Zimbabwe (FCTZ).

An FTCZ official who declined to be named said other schools in the province where they implemented the feeding programmes recorded a high turn out of children who demonstrated improved participation in class as a result. FCTZ also made a generous donation of stationery to the primary schools involved.

Due to economic challenges the country is going through, we realised that the rural folk have been not been able to equip their children with basic requirements that they desperately need to facilitate their learning, said the official. Most school children conduct lessons under trees. The NGO has also embarked on an agricultural input scheme to improve food security at household level. The programme has so far benefited 2000 households in Chiwhiti and Kanyaga.

FCTZ is running a number of poverty alleviation programmes in the constituency.

These include water and sanitation management, home based care to people living with HIV and AIDS and horticulture management.
