Madzore was one of the MDC members arrested by Mugabe last year on flimsy charges of treason. “The title track is about remembering all the cadres who were victims from the time we started this struggle,” he said.
With the song Kubatana, Madzore questions the sincerity of Unity:
“After Gukurahundi he signed an agreement with the late Joshua Nkomo, and after
killing MDC supporters he again signs another agreement with Morgan.”
Madzore said that his intention is to see that the party continues to carry the candle of the struggle. “I do not sing for profits, I sing to cheer the people and to inspire them in the struggle for a new Zimbabwe.”
The MP does not have illusions that his music will ever be played on the pro-Zanu (PF) state broadcaster Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings. Presently most of Chimurenga Music Guru Thomas Mapfumo’s albums are banned by the state broadcaster, and Hosiah Chipanga is in the same predicament.
“All music should receive fair air play regardless of one political views. Muchechetere and those that resist change should know that everything comes to an end, he is too small for this change,” said Madzore.
