Chakabuda told The Zimbabwean that if no urgent measures were put in place by the government, there could be a serious outbreak of disease. He said the beneficiaries were still using a community toilets system. They were forced to share one blair toilet between four.
We are calling the owners of the project to make sure they complete whatever work they have started before the situation gets out of hand. We are not going to demolish the houses, we are simply raising the health concerns since any outbreak of diseases is likely going to affect the entire city, said Chakabuda.
He also lamented the beneficiaries lack of capacity and unwillingness to develop their residential areas and urged the government to come to the rescue of those who had no capacity. The government built the Garikai/Hlalani kuhle houses that are in Runyararo West suburb after it had destroyed shacks under Operation Murambatsvina.
