MDC Director-General Toendepi Shonhe acquitted

toendepi_shonhe_1The MDC Director-General, Toendepi Shonhe who was facing trumped-up charges of perjury was today acquitted at the Harare Magistrates Courts. (Pictured: Toendepi Shonhe)

Shonhe was arrested in June after signing an affidavit at the High Court testifying that three MDC activists, Terri Musona, Lloyd Tarumbwa and Fani Tembo had been re-abducted by State security agents in Banket, Mashonaland West province on 2 June 2009.

It is improper to place Shonhe on his defence and therefore he is entitled to an acquittal, Magistrate Kudakwashe Njerambini said.

The charges that had been levelled against Shonhe, just as the charges being faced by several MDC MPs and members across the country, are trumped-up and represent an on-going campaign to intimidate, harass and decimate the MDC and its structures across the country.
