ZIMTA president Tendai Chikowore told journalists in Harare last week that teachers would withdraw their labour when schools open for the third term next Tuesday.

Chikowore said: Educators have resolved to proceed to withdraw labour with effect from 2nd of September 2009 until their demands are met.

She said teachers were demanding that salaries and allowances be adjusted progressively towards the poverty datum line, which last month was quoted at US$502. Currently teachers averagely take home US$155 a month.

Education minister, David Coltart, could not immediately comment on he matter.

Doctors called off their strike last week after assurances by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai that the government was working to improve their welfare.
