Dynamos, Sundowns to be hauled before PSL Disc Committee

dembare_logoHARARE giants Dynamos and Njube Sundowns are set to be hauled before the Premier Soccer League (PSL) disciplinary committee following the violence that broke out at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday, The Zimbabwean can reveal.

PSL secretary general Kennedy Ndebele told the Zimbabwean in an interview that the two teams would be called for a disciplinary hearing for bringing the game of football into disrepute. Ndebele, however, said he was still waiting for a report on the match from the match official before they took a decision.

“I am aware of the incidents of hooliganism that took place at Barbourfields Stadium and am still waiting for a report from the match official. But, all I can say at the moment is that the culprits will be brought before the PSL disciplinary hearing. The report from the match official will eexplain to us what actually transpired,” said Ndebelebe. Sundowns shocked Dynamos 1-0 on a day in which incidents off the field stole the show. There were incidents of hooliganism from scores of supporters especially those from Dynamos, who did not approve of the decision by the home side- Njube Sundowns to peg the rest of the ground fee at $5.

But, the supporters chose the wrong route of highlighting their grievances as they vandalised the stadium. The irate fans brought down sections of the durawall at the Mpilo end and the swimming pool end, in a bid to gain free entry which they did manage. Even when the match had started there were running battles involving the fans and the police. And after volleys from teargas canisters, Sundowns officials conceded defeat and advised the police to let the fans in for a flat fee of $2. However, they (Sundowns) will live to rue the decision to up the gate charges as the damage caused is reported to be running into hundreds of dollars.
