Herald loses its voice

zim_heraldHARARE- The Zanu PF controlled daily newspaper, The Herald is now being printed in Bulawayo after the printing machine in Harare was reportedly sabotaged by angry underpaid employees.

However sources at the newspaper in Harare told this newspaper that the printing press was sabotaged by workers not happy by the excessive propaganda at the stable which has targeted the main formation of the Movement for Democratic Change, MDC-T led by Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai. The printing press was reportedly sabotaged on Sunday, forcing the company to ask its sister newspaper, The Chronicle in Bulawayo to print copies of the Monday newspaper before shipping them to Harare. The Herald newspaper for Monday only arrived in Harare on Tuesday evening while by late Tuesday afternoon, the edition for that day had not arrived in the capital.

In the Monday newspaper edition, the newspaper carried an apology following delays in producing the paper. We apologise to our valued advertisers and readers over the late publication of todays issue of The Herald. This was due to a mechanical fault on our printing press which our engineers are working on. Any inconvenience caused is sincerely regretted. As a result, publication of the recently launched gossip magazine, H-Metro has been temporarily suspended as the Bulawayo Chronicle printing press which has a skeletal staff was reportedly overwhelmed.

We are failing to cope with the work load. Remember not only do we have to print The Chronicle, we also have to produce The Herald and the Manica Post, including The Sunday News and if the printing press is not ready by the end of the week, we might have to print The Sunday Mail as well, said one of the printers in Bulawayo. The printing of The Herald by the Bulawayo based workers has met resistance after workers at the Zimpapers head office were awarded bonuses to the exclusion of other branches around the country.

The printers in Bulawayo are saying The Herald branch should send its own printers to Bulawayo as they are paid more money. As a result, the printing process has been affected by a go slow, ensuring that The Herald arrives in Harare more than a day later, a journalist at the newspaper said. Zanu PF propagandists in the ministry of information were frantic as the breakdown coincided with Robert Mugabes visit to Venezuela. The Herald is used to glorify Mugabes foreign visits.
