MDCs so-called asymmetrical warfare

HARARE Zanu (PF) has made claims that the MDC and Western Powers are fighting an asymmetrical war with Zimbabwe.

The term refers to “uneven or unlevel” warfare. For example, if a country possessed jets, ships, tanks and soldiers and entered a war with a country that had none of these resources, it is called asymmetrical warfare.

Zanu (PF) has accused the MDC of not meeting them on a level battlefield but rather infiltrating the government from the inside and using foreign funding and international media as weapons.

In essence what Zanu (PF) is doing is making a military/war scenario out of a peaceful scenario by claiming asymmetrical warfare is underway. They are thereby legitimizing their military preparations and brainwashing the troops to believe that even though they may not see soldiers on the streets, there is an open threat coming from the MDC, said an expert on conflict.

One man’s terrorist is another mans freedom fighter, which puts the Southern African Development Committee (SADC) and the Africa Union (AU) in a potentially difficult position.

Unless we nip this in the bud, or SADC prevents it from happening, chances are slim of it being contained, the expert on conflict warned.
