In an interview with The Zimbabwean this week, Nyatanga said he still has a lot to offer to football in the country. The ZIFA boss said he was confident that he would beat other contestants, Zimunya and Matangaidze, who have declared their interest in the job.
What I have done for football since my election into office shows that with time I can turn around things at ZIFA. My biggest achievement so far is that I was able to lobby for the country to host the regional COSAFA Castle Cup which will be played here next month. It is a very big achievement since independence because the country last hosted such a major football tournament way back in 1985, he said.
Nyatanga was elected ZIFA chairman in 2006, after beating Cuthbert Dube by 17 votes to eight to take over from Rafik Khan. Nomination for candidates for the ZIFA chairmanship has already opened and the winner of the plebiscite will go to attend the FIFA Congress which precedes the start of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa in June.
