Villagers boycott burial

grave.jpegHARARE - Villagers in Zimunda area in Chimanimani East boycotted the burial of a notorious Zanu (PF) youth who terrorized them during last year's harmonized elections.

The villagers ignored the burial of Ramson Muusha, a Zanu (PF) youth militia who died on Monday morning after succumbing to severe diarrhoea.

Muusha who was one of the “commanders” of a torture base at Mutsapfu bus terminus tortured scores of suspected MDC supporters with his gang of Zanu (PF) youths.

“Muusha’s burial was attended by only his closest family members and headman Zimunda who is also a staunch Zanu (PF) supporter. It was business as usual for the villagers during the burial. A lot of people were tormented by Muusha during the run up to both harmonized and presidential run off elections” said Charity Simango, the MDC ward chairperson for the area.

Before the burial, headman Caleb Zimunda unsuccessfully tried to force the villagers to attend the burial, threatening them with fines if they absconded.

“Headman Zimunda must have been embarrassed and irked by the fact that as per our African tradition when Muusha died on Monday morning nobody from the village bothered to visit the family to pay their last respects to the deceased. Even Zanu (PF) officials did not attend the burial let alone provide a coffin or food” said another villager, Norman Chimbetete.

Speaking at the burial of Muusha, headman Zimunda described the deceased as a brave young man whom he was proud to be associated with.

“Ram was a true servant of our party Zanu (PF). You all know the work which he did for President Robert Mugabe to win during the presidential run off.

His death is really a loss in my ward,” he said.
