Warriors striker stays

evans_gwekwerereJOHANNESBURG Zimbabwe Warriors striker, Evans Gwekwerere (Pictured), is likely to be playing in Zimbabwe for the rest of the current soccer season, amid revelations of some complications regarding his expected move to Vietnam.

Gwekwerere signed a two-year contract with V-League club Hai Phong FC from newly-promoted South African Premiership side Jomo Cosmos in May this year, but sources close to the player revealed this week that he might not turn out for them anytime soon, due to some undisclosed complications over his contract. He signed the contract and everything looked promising, but some complications have since arisen and forced him to stop training with the club, said one of the sources. Gwekwerere has been in South Africa for the past two months.

The worse part of it is that he failed to get registered with the South African league, as Cosmos also thought that he would be playing in Belgium and that has frustrated him a lot. The sources added that the explosive striker, nicknamed Earthquake after having made an instant impact on the Zimbabwean premier league in Dynamos colours in 2006, might re-join the Harare-based Glamour Boys to remain fit. He is going to Zimbabwe anytime this week and might play for Dynamos up to December if all goes well for him. Gwekwerere also confirmed that he was travelling to Zimbabwe, but would not give anything away about the current status of his football career.

Hailed as the new Peter Ndlovu during his brief stay at Dembare, Gwekwereres star seemed to be losing his shine when he was off-loaded by South African side, Moroka Swallows early last season. However, he re-discovered his form at Jomo Cosmos, whom he propelled back to the ABSA Premiership with a brace in their 2-1 win over Carara Kicks in the promotional play-offs final at the end of last season.
