The report, which was the result of research conducted to establish the mood of Zimbabweans after the formation of the Inclusive government, shows that MDC leader and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai was the frontrunner. The report noted that 70 per cent of Zanu (PF) activists and supporters backed the inclusive government and respected Prime Minister Tsvangirai for the efforts he had made to improve the quality of life for all Zimbabweans.
A political scientist from the University of Zimbabwe said Zanu (PF) supporters opted for the inclusive government because their candidate, President Robert Mugabe, was defeated in the first round of last years presidential elections. “The support for Tsvangirai by most Zanu (PF) supporters as revealed by the report also shows that people have lost confidence in their party, and are afraid of resigning but only to do so through the ballot. The other reason for the MDC leaders support is his personality, said the political analyst.
The report also revealed that the people expected the government to do more on the management of the economy so that hyperinflation would not return. “Zimbabwe has been facing an acute social and economic crisis with virtually all indicators pointing towards regression. Many Zimbabweans viewed the formation of the inclusive government as a panacea to the multi-layered crisis bedevilling the country. 82 per cent credit the inclusive government for controlling inflation, managing the economy and reducing income gaps, read the report.
