This just sums up how our country, once the breadbasket of Southern Africa, has turned into the laughing stock of the world. Some Zimbabweans are even ashamed of themselves. I have met Zimbabweans who, when you hear them speaking Shona and ask where they are from they will say they are South Africans from Venda or from Mozambique.
When the GNU was formed Zimbabweans thought their woes were over. Little did they know that this was just a well drawn cake on paper that would never satisfy their hunger. Still there is no rule of law, human rights abuses abound, corruption and graft continue unabated and there is no press freedom or democracy. Since the GNU was formed more MDC officials have been arrested, even more than the Zanu (PF) officials who were arrested since independence.
Losing favour
Our country is among the most corrupt in Africa and saying Zanu (PF) officials are clean is not true reflection of the situation on the ground. Why was Jestina Mukoko arrested? What harm has she done to the people? Zanu (PF) is not ready for change, they are determined to keep their status quo, protect their allowances and privileges and let the rest of the nation suffer. Party members are more concerned about losing favour than telling President Robert Mugabe that people dont want him anymore.
Zanu (PF) is indeed unrepentant. I have seen some reports that Jonathan Moyo might be reinstated back into the party were he made his name. This is the same man who introduced the draconian laws that made our people inhuman.
The GNU is just a marriage of convenience. They agreed to form a government with other parties as a result of pressure, not their will to make things better. When the GNU was formed I wrote a story entitled: Will this GNU be a triumph or tragedy for Zimbabweans. I am sorry to say, but it is turning out to be a tragedy for our nation.
On October 16 the high court of Zimbabwe ordered the release on bail of Roy Bennett and the court ordered that the MDC treasurer should stand trial for terrorism.
Bennett is accused of illegally possessing arms to commit acts of terrorism which carries a maximum death sentence. And yet the people who were responsible for Gukurahundi are walking free, doing their business as usual. Even the MDC recently boycotted the government as a result of the persecution their members were getting form Zanu (PF).
A threat not an asset
Why am I saying Zanu (PF) is unrepentant? A true leader is not the one with the most followers, but the one who creates the most leaders. In Zimbabwe someone who shows signs of being a good leader, or who is highly gifted, is not considered a national asset but a threat to the superiors. Instead of them giving him support they plot against him. This is the reason why people like Wilf Mbanga, Trevor Ncube and Masiyiwa are all in exile.
Where on earth do you see a president who rules for 30 years, and who has three vice presidents who die in office? Are there no other leaders in the country?
A person who never admits his mistakes will never take responsibility for his actions either good or bad. I dont see hope for Zanu (PF), they are just a self-seeking, corrupt, and political party.

One day I was sitting with my friends from DRC joking as we always do. One of them said to me: I heard that you Zimbabweans learned how to communicate with lions when jumping the border to South Africa. (Pictured: Zimbabwean Refugees in South Africa)
