Biti, who is battling central bank governor Gideon Gono for the control of the country’s purse, was informed of the highly acclaimed award over the weekend. “Its an honor,” said Biti, in a brief interview. In a statement to the media on Monday, the MDC heaped praise on Biti who has pursued frugal policies in attempts to rescue the ailing economy. Since 1992, Euromoney, the world’s leading financial markets magazine, has singled outstanding institutions and individuals in finance. All the awards have one central theme – they recognise institutions and
individuals that demonstrate leadership, innovation and momentum in the markets in which they excel.
“Minister Biti has brought sanity and transparency into the management of public funds ever since he was appointed Minister of Finance in February. He has stood firm in the face of attempts by individuals linked to a certain political party to grab funds from the International Monetary Fund,” said the MDC in a brief statement.
