According to eye witnesses, the soldiers stormed the school and told pupils they should support Zanu (PF) at the next election.
“Four soldiers visited our school last week and told us to make sure we obtain our national registration documents and register as voters before election time,” said one pupil.
“It was after the soldiers had finished addressing us that their commander asked for any questions and one of us asked whether the soldiers where forcing us to vote for a particular political party. Upon telling us to vote for Zanu (PF) should election time come the, whole school booed the commander,” he said.
After the kids had dismissed for the day the soldiers allegedly abducted the pupil who has asked the question, accusing him of inciting a revolt against them.
“They used the pre-June 27 events where we were assaulted in front of pupils as forthcoming action and some even worse narrations to instil fear in the pupils so that they could easily give in to their demands,” said a teacher.
During the run-up to last year’s violent presidential elections a group of militias led by one only identified as Colonel Maziti is said to have carried out a violent campaign, terrorising villagers in the Gutu North constituency.
