CAPS United defender Mwanjali appointed Warriors captain

method_mwanjaliHARARE- Veteran CAPS United defender Method Mwanjali has been appointed captain of the Warriors ahead of the COSAFA Castle Cup challenge tournament which kicks off in Harare in on Saturday.

Mwanjali, was given the arm band to lead the Warriors in their battle for a fourth regional tournament by coach Sunday Chidzambwa yesterday.

The CAPS United defender was delighted to be given the arm band. “It’s a great honour to be appointed captain of the Warriors,” Mwanjali told The Zimbabwean. “It is a challenge in my football career and I will try to live to expectations. It’s not every day that you get such appointments to lead your national team. I am confident we will lift the cup because we have home advantage. Our fans will rally behind us and we will work hard to ensure that we do not disappoint them,”

Chidzambwa said he settled for Mwanjali because he had the qualities to lead the team. “Mwanjali is a hard worker. He is a very disciplined player too. Infact he has all the qualities to lead a team. This is why I settled on him. I am sure he will lead the team to victory,” said Chidzambwa.

Mwanajali will be deputised by Bantu Rovers goalkeeper Washington Arubi.

This will be the first time that the CAPS United defender will lead the Warriors in the absence of Highlanders defender Gilbert Banda who led the team at the African Nations Championships in Ivory Coast early this year.

Banda is nursing an injury and will not be part of the team that will do duty starting on Saturday. Chidzambwa has called up mostly home based players for the tournament a development which has ruled out foreign based players including England based captain Benjani Mwaruwari.

The Warriors will kick off their campaign with a date against Mauritius at Rufaro on Saturday.
