The beer outlet which had become a white elephant due to neglect by the previous owner, has since been turned into a popular meeting point. The overnight success story of the 35-year-old MDC mayor, has prompted political foes especially those in Zanu (PF), to accuse him of corruption and siphoning council resources for his personal use. Nyandoro vehemently denies the charge.
Management staff at the local authority have disassociated Nyandoro from ill-gotten wealth. Nyandoro is an ambitious hardworking mayor. He is not wasteful with whatever income he gets. Though I am Zanu (PF), I have admire Nyandoros transparent way of handling council affairs, said a senior staff member, on condition of anonymity.
Nyandoro identified the project at Nora farm where his wife is a school teacher. He reached rental terms with the owner, whose identity could not be established. He renovated the premise and put it to immediate use.
A friend with an account with Delta Beverages, borrowed 90 crates of beer on behalf of Nyandoro to jump start the project. Armed with marketing skills, Nyandoro advertised the enterprise among friends and colleagues. News about hospitality at the bar spread and the farm watering point has become one of the most prominent state of the art gazebos around.
Fellow struggling people must not despair if they do not have huge amounts of cash for investment. No amount of capital is too little to start a viable business. One can kick start a project with as little as one dollar. What is needed is vision and determination. Especially in a dollarized economy, if a dollar makes an extra dollar in profit, success is guaranteed, said Nyandoro.
