The leadership of MDC in South Africa arrived at the University of Fort Hare this morning to address protesting students over the exclusion of MDC aligned students. Our demands are simple. We are asking the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Tom Mvuyo to be compassionate to the youngsters and allow them to write their examinations and to activate theiWe are being joined by the entire student community at the University of Fort Hare, including South Africans, Zambians, Namibians and Tswanas in a rare display of unison.
Dr. Mvuyo initally asked us to postpone the demonstration, but we can’t in the absence of a written withdrawal of threats to exclude our students.
We can’t just flash the kids’s future in the drain like that, simple because they opted to be part of MDC and not Zanu PF.
The presidential scholarship scheme is bankrolled by the Zimbabwe tax-payers and never by Zanu PF as a political party and therefore there is no justification whatsoever to punish students. These students are at the University at the pleasure of the tax-payers and never on any political patronage.
The Chairman of the Scolarship Board Chris Mushori, ‘s assertion that students were not supposed to involve themselves in politics, is genuine nonsense and 100% rubbish. This is the first case of its own kind. Who have ever seen such barbaric acts being allowed to manifest their ugly heads at a University?
