In her keynote address to delegates attending a Chitungwiza provincial council meeting here last week, the veteran trade unionist told participants that the flagrant violation of the GPA by Zanu (PF) was impacting negatively on the performance of the inclusive government.
Matibenga cited among other things the refusal by president Robert Mugabe and Zanu (PF) to reverse the unilateral appointments of the reserve bank of Zimbabwe governor Gideon Gono and Attorney general Johannes Tomana as ample testimony of the insincerity of Zanu (PF) with regard to the inclusive government.
“The appointments of the governor of the reserve bank of Zimbabwe and the attorney general are serious breaches of the GPA, as prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai was not consulted,” she said.
The former trade unionist also said the reluctance to implement the GPA in full on the part of Zanu (PF) has prompted the MDC-T to engage its grass roots structures and general populace for an honest assessment and evaluation of the inclusive government in terms of its progress, successes, failures and the challenges confronting it.
The delegates also took a swipe at the state media’s constant vilification of the party leadership and hailed the introduction of the prime minister’s newsletter as a way of countering state media’s propaganda onslaught.
Meanwhile, the provincial council meeting mandated district executive members to facilitate consultative meetings with party activists and supporters on the progress and challenges facing the inclusive government.
Chitungwiza provinicial organising secretary, Greenbert Dongo, who is also a member of parliament for Goromonzi west constituency, urged youths to be on the guard against CIO operatives who might cause disturbances during the consultative meetings.
