Ndebele and two of his band members were rushed to hospital after the accident, which happened near Chabweno Farm as they were coming from a gig in Shamva. The driver of the Isuzu KB carrying Ndebele lost control of the vehicle after the trailer carrying instruments swerved, causing it to overturn.

Two band members suffered concussion and broken bones that required surgery and intensive care. Ndebele, who, as a child, had a hand amputated after an accident, was said to have suffered leg and back injuries.

A sungura star in the mould of Leonard Dembo, Ndebele has achieved popularity after a 17-year career and almost 20 albums. Meanwhile, urban groovers Leornard Mapfumo and Trevor Dongo were involved in a serious road accident last weekend after performing at a benefit concert.

Showbiz heard that the Maidei entertainer hit a cow while travelling from Mutare. He was travelling with Dongo in a Toyota Corolla, together with producer Joe Machingura and two others.

Mapfumo was critically ill with head injuries. Dongo sustained leg injuries.

The benefit concert was to raise cash for 18-year-old Nomatter Taremeredzwa Mapungwana who underwent an operation to remove a tumour at a hospital in London.
