The editors unexpected departure on Monday came just before the planned launch of the daily, which is part of the Zimbabwe Independent Publishers stable.
Though NewsDay has yet to receive an operating license its owner Trevor Ncube, the proprietor of Zimbabwe Independent Publishers, has publicly announced that his newest newspaper NewsDay will be launched at the beginning of November.
Thondhlana was appointed editor in April his year.
Sources at the newspaper said the former Daily News staffers legendary “long lunches” were to blame.
Matters came to a head last week after Thondhlana failed to return from lunch to conduct staff recruitment interviews. His bosses were livid and they decided not to renew his contract, which expired earlier this month.Post published in: News
