Pakame Childrens programme, bought goats and is also sponsoring the running of nutritional gardens for orphans and vulnerable children.
Villagers commended the project for its contribution to the welfare of the children and the community in general.
The community appreciates this programme and we will support the programme as it goes a long way to ensure that children realise their dreams, said Lovejoy Munemo, adding that it would enable children to raise the money for school fees.
She said the children were now able to buy books and other school necessities from selling the garden produce.
The lives of orphans have already changed, it is our prayer that the project becomes self-sustaining in the future, said John Simonito, another villager from Pakame.
An official of the organisation said there was an increase in the number of child headed families in the rural district of Shurugwi and his organisation was focusing on the self-sustenance of children.
We will not always have resources to assist these children so we have invested in self-sustaining projects like small livestock and nutrition gardens. This way they will be able to look after themselves without always waiting for donations, he said.
Shurugwi is one of the districts most affected by HIV and AIDS and this has seen an increase in the number of orphaned and other vulnerable children.
