Around 500 people sang protest songs as they marched through the city streets. Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Chiroto spoke to the protesters and said the council was committed to working with the residents and that their issues would be addressed as soon as possible.
Harare Mayor Muchadeyi Masunda did not attend. Residents were asking for a rates cut, and end to the purchase of luxury vehicles for officers, consultation on the 2010 budget and a review of the high salaries paid to senior officials.
