SA clubs target Zim players

south_african_footballHARARE - South African clubs are reportedly targeting a number of Zimbabwean players competing in the ongoing Cosafa senior challenge Cup tournament.

South African Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs and Silver Stars are some of the clubs which have reportedly shown interest in Zimbabwean players.

Monomotapa defender, Asan Nhongo, is one of the players who has caught the eye of the South African clubs. Nhongo, who was voted Man of the Match in the Warriors 3-0 victory over Mauritius in their opening Group A match, confirmed that a “certain club” in South Africa was monitoring him.

“I was just told that there is a representative of a certain club in South Africa who is here with the possibility of talking over a possible transfer,” said Nhongo. “But I have not spoken to anyone because I am still in camp and concentrating on playing.

Dynamos striker Cuthbert Malajila and Monoz midfielder Chris Semakweri are also reported to have caught the eye of Kaizer Chiefs.

Malajila had an unsuccessful trial stint in Belgium for almost one month. The Dynamos hit man was attached to Cercle Brugge during his one month trial period but failed to impress their technical department.

Malajia, who is one of the Premiership’s leading marksmen, is the current top goal scorer in the Cosafa tournament with three goals.
