SA visa waiver deal not working

sa_visaNELSPRUIT Zimbabweans who continue to flood South in droves under the recent visa waiver are finding the going tough as local employers shun those who hold passports with the three-month permit.

Thousands of Zimbabweans who thronged Mpumalangas Nelspruit and White River claim to have been turned away even when their passports show that they have the permit. MDC Youth Chairman, Rodwell Shambamuto, singled out Rotran, a company contracted by electricity power utility-Eskom, as the main culprit.

The deal struck between the two governments is not being honoured at all. Rotran are deliberately frustrating qualified Zimbabwean drivers, engineers and other professionals for the sole reason that the three month permit was not acceptable. This is frustrating those that aspiring to work in South Africa, mainly in Mpumalanga province, said Shambamuto, an employee at Rotran.

Effort to get comment from Rotran management proved fruitless at the time of going to press.
