Three time Cosafa champions Angola bow out after defeat to SA

cosafa_cupBULAWAYO-A second string South African side shocked three time Cosafa Champions Angola after beating them 2-0 in a tense quarter-final tie here at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday.

Goals from the exciting Lenox Bacela and Oupa Manyesa was all the youthful South African side needed to advance to the last four of the tournament.

Bacel scored in the 64th minute before Manyisa added the second on 79 minutes for South Africa to see off their more illustrious opponents.

South Africa who will be hosting the world cup next year chose to field a largely developmental side and the results appear to be bearing fruit as they marched on to the semi-finals of the Cosafa tournament against all oddds.

For Angola it was a heart break for them to bow out at this stage given that they will be hosting the African Cup of Nations in January. Angola have lifted the regional tournament on three occasions alongside Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa.
