MARONDERA - Zanu (PF) supporters employed by the council have been overzealously implementing council resolutions which negatively impact MDC councillors, it has emerged. The ploy was exposed last week, when Zanu (PF) water meter readers, defied council orders and cut off water to residents who had defaulted on their bill payments. The council had ordered the suspension of water until the end of the month to allow residents time to pay outstanding debts.
The youths ignored Mayor Farai Nyandoro’s instruction that the socially and economically disadvantaged must not be affected by the cutting off of water supplies.
“As a council, we made it clear that socially disadvantaged residents were a social welfare matter, thus must be spared water cuts as they can not afford to pay service charges. The problem is that employees responsible for water projects, are Zanu (PF) and have an agenda. They want to champion resolutions which tarnish the image of MDC councillors,” said one of the councillors.
According to residents, the Zanu (PF) youths informed them that they were sent to terminate water supplies in order to avoid a cholera outbreak.
