Zanu (PF) youth ambush

zanuCHIMANIMANI - Suspected Zanu (PF) youths last week attacked and injured MDC youths who were coming from a rally in Rusitu valley.

The MDC youths, who were travelling in a party Isuzu truck, were ambushed and attacked along the Nyahode/Chimanimani road, about 500 metres away from Joshua Sakos farm, the son of a local white commercial farmer who was recently elected the Zanu (PF) Secretary for External Affairs in the youth wing.

One of the injured MDC youths was Watson Muocha who was hit on the head with a stone. Muocha was taken to Chimanimani Hospital where he was treated and discharged the following day.

“We were coming from a rally which was addressed by the Member of Parliament for Musikavanhu constituency, Prosper Mutseyami, when we were suddenly attacked by Zanu (PF) youths who apparently had mounted an illegal roadblock near Sako’s house along the road. The road was blocked with logs and stones,” said Muocha.

Muocha said the windscreen of the Isuzu truck was damaged during the attack which he described as well coordinated and organized. “We tried in vain to fight back but we were overpowered by the youths who were throwing “missiles’ ranging from stones and bricks. The road had been blocked and we could not escape, he said.

The incident was reported to the police, but there have been no arrests. The MDC district Coordinator for Chimanimani, Pardon Maguta, confirmed the

incident. “We have received a report from our guys that they were attacked by suspected Zanu (PF) youths near Kwirire school. I do not want to comment any further because I understand the police are investigating the issue, said Muguta.
