Licensing officers are complaining that they are facing resistance from car owners who are refusing to pay listeners’ license fees.
“We are having difficult times with car owners whom we are forced to make pay the fees. Most of them are refusing to pay saying there is nothing worth listening to on ZBC.They are telling us to go and get revenue from ZANU(PF) whom we propagate its doctrine, with some even threatening to beat us if we insist demanding the money, said one licensing officer who declined to be named.
A car owner at Newlands shopping centre said has since resorted to playing CDs accusing the state broadcaster as being partisan in its news coverage.
“I find nothing to pay for as I do not listen to ZBC radio. Guys at ZBC are letting us down and are also taking us for granted, by they way they programme their productions. I do not remember when I last listened to ZBC especially news which is purely partisan and distortions of real facts, said the driver.
ZBC is demanding annual license fees of $40 for car radios, $20 home radios, and $50 for televisions viewer ship per each set.
