ZBC witch-hunt over sex scandal

sexual_abuseHARARE - Managers at the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) have launched a witch-hunt for employees suspected of leaking information to newspapers and online publications which have for the past few months exposed rampant cases of sexual abuse, mismanagement and looting by the top leadership.

Sources at the scandal-ridden state propaganda station said real and perceived detractors of the senior managers are being interrogated by management and dreaded members of the Central Intelligence Organization (CIO).

A Journalist within the News and Current Affairs department said General Manager for News and Current Affairs recently threatened producers and reporters with dismissal and arrest by the CIO claiming that they were plotting his downfall together with that of other senior managers by leaking the scandals taking place at the corporation.

Last week Mandizvidza told an editorial meeting that he is aware of the people leaking information and threatened to deal with them, said the source.

Mandizvidza and O’Brian Rwafa (Reporters manager) are some of the many managers under investigation by the Broadcasting station’s Human Resources Department headed by Benania Shumba.

A human resources department official said current affairs manager, Clifford Mfiri, was also under investigation for organizing student interns for Mandizvidza as the two are believed to be related.

Last week the Federation of African Media Women Zimbabwe (FAMZ) called for the setting up of an independent commission of enquiry to investigate the alleged sex scandals at ZBC, saying the organization which represents female media workers in the country, has received numerous reports of cases of sexual abuse at ZBC, from some of the victims.
