ZIFA chief executive, Henrietta Rushwaya, said the association was not aware of any misappropriation of the funds. “As ZIFA we will account for the money used during the match, said Rushwaya.
The Oya Challenge match has been marred by controversy since Blend Value, a cigarette firm, said they would ask the association to account for every penny the company doled out for the challenge match.
The match, which saw CAPS United beat the Warriors 5-4 on penalties, was used as a dress rehearsal of the Cosafa Senior Challenge tournament which is currently underway in Zimbabwe. Blend Value were expected to make public this week a report in which they are threatening to take the matter up with the police should ZIFA fail to account for the money.
Blend Value are arguing that the trophy and medals handed over to winners CAPS United were not new. They said they had paid US$ 1 850 for the purchase of a new trophy and medals.
We will be handing over the report to the responsible authorities at the end of the week and if we dont account for every cent we will be left with no option but to call in the police, a spokesman for the Oya Challenge Cup sponsors said.
