Patrick Wisani, the ANC Youth League chairman for Johannesburg Inner City, on Sunday told a crowd of more than 500 people at a ZAPU rally, that the struggle to restore democracy in Zimbabwe would only succeed if the youth seized control. Mugabe is the biggest problem that we have in Zimbabwe right now, said Wisani. It is therefore up to the Zimbabwean youth to take up the struggle and make sure that this dictator runs, and runs now.
Wisani said that it was disappointing that some Zimbabwean youths were spending most of their time in taverns, drinking beer while their nation remained under the grip of a dictator. I call upon all the Zimbabwean youths to come out of the taverns and nightclubs and rally behind parties like ZAPU, which are fighting to restore democracy in Zimbabwe. The elderly have done enough and it is now up to the youths to take the struggle forward.
Wisani said that his party was willing to support any initiative that sought to end Zimbabwes political and economic crisis, which he solely blamed on the intransigence of Mugabe. Zimbabwe belongs to the young people, but if those young people continue to sleep, it will never be freed and all the future generation will be ruined, added Wisani. The youth should act for the good of Zimbabwes future generation because, just like Swaziland, Zimbabwe is one of the two most problematic countries in Southern Africa right now. As youths of this region, we need to work together and take more militant action against both Mugabe and King Mswati of Swaziland. “We must all come together and shout, ‘Run Mugabe, Run’ as we fight for democracy in the region.
