MARONDERA - Minister of Local Government, Ignatius Chombo, “Minister Chombo has deferred installation of Nyandoro as mayor, until three Chombo-nominated Zanu (PF) councillors assume office. If MDC councillors do not give in to Chombos directive, then there will not be any installation ceremony for Nyandoro,” said Marondera District Administrator, James Chirawu.
All other local authorities submitted to minister Chombos orders to take hand-picked councillors aboard. Bulawayo and Marondera municipalities, however, rejected the appointed councillors.
MDC councillors here said it made no difference whether Chombo installed Nyandoro or not.
“Nyandoro is already a sitting Mayor. He was officially sworn in and Chombos so-called installation will not cause any sleepless nights. We will never work with Chombo- appointed councillors here. Chombo must appoint technocrats as councillors for special interests, not losing and failed Zanu (PF) officials,” said MDC district spokesman, Dominic Matangira.
Residents of Marondera have expressed anger at minister Chombos unwillingness to install councillor Nyandoro as mayor.
