On September 2 the council authorised the purchase of a Mazda CX9 for Moyo at a cost of US$47 700. The council was also obliged to pay duty on the car, amounting to US$ 25 300. The total cost for the purchase would thus amount to US$73 000. The 2010 Mazda CX-9 is the only version in its range to be installed with a V6 engine and contains extras such as a blue tooth connection system. The car is even more expensive than the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, a car being used by most Cabinet Ministers in the country.

The proposal was, however, quashed by some members of the council and it was decided instead that a car amounting to US$47 700 inclusive of duty be bought for Moyo.

The mayor is currently being chauffeur-driven in a 1976 black Peugot 504 station wagon.

The council is also locked in a wrangle with its former mayor, Japhet Ndabeni

Ncube, over a Mercedes Benz that is part of his exit package. The council announced that Ncube was required to pay US$5 500 for the vehicle.
