The Zimbabwe government tolerates conduct thats unacceptable such as bribery and corruption. We shouldnt be sweeping corruption under the carpet, Robertson said. He said the country was full of unnecessary controls and hidden taxes. Officials need to be bought to approve investments. Corruption appears to have been authorised and accepted. Senior officials seem to take it as a benefit of their office and dont see anything wrong with it. Companies are trying hard to protect their money, Robertson said.
He said while the new Mid Term (economic) Plan drafted by the government was a useful document he felt it was more of a description of the destination but doesnt show us how were going to get there. He said it was in danger of ending up on the shelf of some government office, gathering dust.
