First Christmas in a decade

christmas_box.jpegHARARE - Civil servants in the country have gone on a shopping spree after the government awarded them US$150.00 bonuses this year.

“I bought a bed and a digital satellite receiver after I got my US$300.00. Even though I have been a teacher for more than seven years now this is the first year of my career that I have bought something meaningful,” said Cleopas Mapisa.

Over the past decade most Zimbabweans have struggled to afford basic necessities, but change has come for some since the formation of the inclusive government and the subsequent dollarisation of the economy.

“Even though we received bonuses last year they were worthless as they were quickly eroded by inflation and we could not buy anything. This is the first

time that we have received bonuses to be excited about,” said Angela Tigere.
