MARONDERA - Headman Brian Gomo of Chief Svosve area has ordered underprivileged people benefiting from donor farm inputs to surrender all they have been given to his homestead until further instruction.Gomo is notorious for grabbing inputs distributed to villagers in the past.
Donors indicated that the input distribution program was aimed at capacitating underprivileged villagers. But now that we have received the inputs, Gomo wants to rob us. He has ordered every beneficiary to surrender the inputs at his homestead so that the seed and fertilizer are shared among all people in his kraal. Anyone who defies the order faces unspecified disciplinary measures, said an 82-year-old grandmother, who cares for 11 orphans.
Gomo a staunch Zanu (PF) supporter, is mobilizing scotch-carts to transport the goods from the intended beneficiaries to his homestead.
Chief Rinos Masangomayi, who has overall authority in the area, described Gomos instruction as illegitimate since it is insensitive to the plight of the poor. He urged recipients of the inputs not to surrender anything.
