MDC legislator for Makoni Central dies

accidentHARARE The MDC (Tsvangirai) MP for Makoni Central, John Nyamande, has died in a mysterious accident that has left the entire MDC leadership shocked. He was 57.

Nyamande, a former MDC-UK interim chairman, died in the early hours of Sunday when the official twin-cab he was driving hit an unidentified truck that had come to a stop in the middle of the Rusape-Harare road in Ruwa.

He was driving alone and is reported to have died on the spot.

Irene Sanyauke, a close relative who is now comforting Nyamandes widow in Britain, said the family was devastated by the news of his death.

As for now, we only know that he hit a car which was stationary in the middle of the highway, she said.

Nyamande will always be remembered for a bold decision he took in returning home at the height of political violence during the June election. When back home, he made a heroic decision to campaign for a parliamentary position, standing against Mugabes most trusted ally, Patrick Chinamasa, who also happened to be his cousin.

During the height of Zanu (PF) perpetrated violence, Nyamande escaped an assassination attempt.
